Broad-tailed Hummingbird
Look and listen for humming birds feeding in fireweed patches or leks.
They can have up to three broods in one season and therefore they will
set up leks or breeding areas that are defended. Once you find a lek
you can observe the juveniles begging for food or the adults chasing
each other. You don't have to get up early for this bird because the
cold temperatures can slow their heart rate to below 60 bpm. |
