Burrowing owls are small rare owls about the size of a pigeon. Their home is identified as a mound of loose dirt, but consist of a tunnel that may be 6 to 10 feet long and lined with feathers and plant material. They may dig their own burrow but usually occupy an abandon den of a tunneling mammal.
