Friend or foe?. Magpies have a symbiotic relationship with many of Yellowstone's ungulates. Here, the black
and white corvid helps the sheep by eating bugs from it's coat. In turn, Pica hudsonia's nest may be
lined with
fur from sheep's coat or the sheep may be just a place for the resourceful bird to
rest and warm its feet.
Magpies can also be seen harvesting bugs and fur from bison and elk.
